Today I was shopping for an inexpensive virtual private server. After a little bit of research I ended up finding Digital Ocean. They offer several VPS packages, with the cheapest one priced at $5/month. I was quite surprised to see that $5 would have bought me a month of :
- 512MB Memory
- 1 Core Processor
- 20 GB SSD Disk
- 1 TB Transfer
Pretty neat! On D.O. you can deploy instances (they call them “droplets”) of Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian and CentOS in four different regions (New York, Amsterdam, San Francisco and Singapore). The control panel is quite straightforward to use and got me up and running very quickly.
Before I could spawn a server I had to make an initial payment via credit card or PayPal ($5 minimum). I found that by using the promo code ALLSSD10 I could add $10 dollars to my balance upon making the first $5 deposit, for a $15 total.
That’s 3 months of VPS for $5!
I have yet to evaluate the performance of the service, but the first impressions are positive. Check it out.
Referral disclaimer: I get 25$ worth of credits when a user signs up via this blog and spends a minimum of $25. This does not put a bias in my review of the service. I really think this company offers a great price for what they offer and that people should try it.
